FAQs

If I miss a class, can I make it up?

If you miss a class, the only way to make it up is by separately purchasing the recorded video of that class for $20. The video file will be emailed to you. Upon returning to the next evening class, you will need to arrive at least 15 minutes early so that you can recite and what the lesson plan was as well as effectively execute the job physically verbally

Am I guaranteed job placement upon graduating from this class?

We cannot say that you will be guaranteed a job within a certain time-frame and/or a production company. It is up to the production company to hire you as they have their own SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for hiring.

We are essentially the “vocational class” that can refer you to multiple production companies.

If this class is the only experience I have ever had on a set, what do you recommend that I do next to continue with what I have learned?

Our suggestion to you is to speak with every production company that we have given you and make it clear to them that this class is the only experience you have ever had. Being honest and forthcoming will be rewarded. Tell them you are willing to work at minimum wage to get the experience. If a company says something to the effect of, “We already have our Grips and Electrics, how do you feel about being a PA (Production Assistant)”? We would tell you to say “Yes.” This may not be exactly what you want at first, but this will get you on set and talking to the crew’s. Ask lot’s of questions. Watch and listen to everyone on set. Know when to speak.

Other options you can do as well is to join filmmakers groups and networking events. San Diego Film Consortium, join a film crew for the 48 hour film project, San Diego Media Pros, #FilmNetSD, sign up for the newsletter with the Chula Vista Entertainment Complex.

A great study guide for film gear that Grips and Electricians use are as follows: FIlmtools, MSEGRIP (Matthews Studio Equipment), Modern Studio Equipment, Kupo, American Grip, Setwear, Arri, Kino Flo, Aputure, Nanlux, Dracast, etc…

If you are interested in being in I.A.T.S.E. (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) union, reach out to your Locals’ office. For instance, since we are located in San Diego, the union office for San Diego is IATSE Local 122.

I heard that I can make payment installments for the class. Is this true?

Absolutely true. Squarespace (this website) uses Stripe as the payment system and Klara is attached to Stripe. Klarna allows you to make payments, up to 24 months.

Why don’t you charge more for this class? I mean, this class is super valuable and you could make a lot more!

Question and statement are accurate and true. Our CEO Mike made a promise to the local film community that he would not act like a “Corporate Giant” and take all the profits and leave everyone else high and dry.

He has made a commitment of treating everyone equal regardless of your gender, race, sexuality, background. All he cares about is your passion. If you are willing to come to class/work on time, ready to listen and learn, you have his attention.

I heard you will have a page dedicated to Actors and Crew Members on this website?

Yes, this is absolutely true. We are in the process of developing that section. We want to help promote talented local actors and crews that are not part of a singular production company. We want them to be able to be seen by all Producers, Crew leads, Talent scouts, Agents, etc…

What are the steps to be on your website as cast and/or crew?

Fill in your information on the Contact Us page and someone will contact you to set up an appointment to speak further about the details. Be sure to tell us as to why you are contacting us. It is very in-expensive, easy, fun and exciting. Keep in mind. For every penny you invest into your Kraft, a portion of that can be used to write off on your taxes. (Speak to your tax professional). So in hindsight, it’s actually cheaper than the final invoice.
